| 10181 | 2001-03-19 09:06:00 | As far as I am aware, only Quark can open Xpress files. It's not the only page layout program though. You can also use PageMaker, InDesign, PagePlus, FrameMaker, MS Publisher and even CorelDraw. If you're creating files for output to imagesetting equipment, you'll need specialist knowledge to cope with trapping/choking, separations and so on. Not recommended fo beginners. On the other hand, if it's for limited run stuff using DTP low end laser or inkjet printing gear, you can use just about any of the above. Quark is powerful stuff but it demands a serious amount of skill and experience from the user. It's probably the safest bet for serious DTP so if that's the level you're aiming at, bite the bullet and spring for Quark. Otherwise, pick the program that you can best afford. |
