10220 2001-03-20 00:30:00 I do two backups, one of my entire data from my data partition (D) to a 2nd HDD mounted in a removable carrier (F); and a particular directory to floppy. Both use MS Backup from Win 98 2nd ed. In the floppy backup I use data compression, and get an error message on disk 2 (of 3) saying something like 'end of media approached unexpectedly'. This has happened twice. It then refuses to go any further. Where do I go from here? Guest (0)
10221 2001-03-21 12:45:00 You may have a faulty floppy disk. Try reformatting the floppy at fault and watch the summary at the end - make sure there are no bad sectors. If some are reported, repeat the formatting with a variety of other diskettes before you discard the diskette - your floppy drive could be playing up.

If your original faulty diskette is the only one reporting bad sectors, throw it away and replace it.

If other diskettes format with bad sectors, try to find another PC on which you can try them before concluding that your drive is faulty.

If none of your disks report errors, then it would appear that there is a problem with MS Backup in which case I would check out Microsoft support.

However, I suspect a faulty floppy or faulty drive (may just need a clean).

Either way, just remember that formatting a floppy disk is a highly effective means of deleting all the files off it.

Luck

10222 2001-03-21 22:02:00 Thanks Rowan, I have tried the formatting option and all floppies report no bad sectors. I have reinstalled Win98SE and tried again with the same result, on the same disk. I intend to retry using a different floppy, and if no joy, I will try Microsoft. Guest (0)
