It had a number of problems and took me days but that should not have happened . I had to uninstall ten reinstall Win 98 from my OEM version than put in the upgrade to Win98 2nd Edit . The problem is that you can't install an earlier version so not only did I have to get rid of Win ME but I had to get rid of the My Programs folder as it had some Windows components in it . The Microsoft helpline people were very good . Of course I obviously had upgraded to WinME from Win 98 . Best of British . Do ring the help loine and talk to them . |

This is provided for though I dont remember for sure, but try start, programs, accessories, or Windows help; the 'Uninstall WindowsME' is there somewhere. That is if you opted to preserve Win98 when you installed WinME. I did have to reinstall Win98 from disk to finally sort all the problems, though that was no problem as Win98 was the operating system in residence. Good Luck | Guest (0) | ||
| 10358 | 2001-03-25 20:10:00 | I have been sucessfully running Me for about 3 months with absolutely no problems My machine stay on 100% of the time an now unless i do some thing stupid I very rarely have to reboot. the secret is to do a clean install ie fdisk and format your drive and reload everything. often if you do an upgrade you magnify the existing bugs that are in the system | Guest (0) | ||
| 10359 | 2001-03-26 11:27:00 | wish I could agree with Bryan G but I can't. I have had to do a number of reinstalls and always a clean install. However by clicking Start/Programs/Accessories/ System Tools/System Infomation, then clicking Tools/System Configuration Utility, then clicking Selective Startup, then the Startup Tab and unchecking some of the stuff, it has improved things, but be careful, don't uncheck anything to do with Regiter or Registry. I also check for the latest updates and patches for Win ME. Hope this helps. |
