| 10305 | 2001-03-22 03:05:00 | My brother has recently bought an IBM Aptiva with WindowsME. He would like to install WindowsME backup but only has a silly IBM recovery CD. Where will he find Back up and is it even present on the IBM recovery CD. He has no access to a full OEM verison of ME. Any and all help appreciated. | Guest (0) | ||

If you are trying to use the built in backup utility in ME, go start/programs/accesories/system tools/ recover and follow your nose. If you want to do a complete reinstall of ME as per when you bought the pc, then you have to use the recovery cd. Or go out and buy a copy of ME :) To use the recovery cd, place the cd into the cd rom drive and close it, now restart your machine. It should automatically run on restart. If it doesn't, you need to change the boot process in the bios, it needs to be changed to A,CDROM,C: or something similiar for the CDROM to be read first. Good luck, come back if any questions. |

Now I know that you only have a recovery diskand I'm sure your have searched it for some sort of backup. do you have a friend that has a original copy of ME or 98 that you can make a copy of either the above file or msbackup.exe. msbexp.exe is only just over 1MB in size so should copy on a floppy disk. Microsoft is aware of this, see their knowledge base article Q264541 at support.microsoft.com write back if you still have trouble. |

If you get ahold of the file 'msbackup.exe' either but it in a folder of it's own or in the windows folder and create a shortcut to it to your deasktop or somewhere in the 'start menu' folder,eg. 'System tools'. I have been searching the web to see if I could locate either the 'msbackup.exe' or the msbexp.exe' files. You must be able to get them from Microsofts FTP site but am unsure of the exact address. If anyone else can help with an address it would be appreciated. | Guest (0) | ||
