10412 2001-03-25 02:27:00 My computer was working fine last night, but when I turned it on this morning I recieved the following message: 'BIOS ROM checksum error'. It asked me to insert my boot disk, which I did, and after some loading (during which I was informed that 'drive C doesn't contain a valid FAT or FAT32 partition') I was presented with a help file which was completely unresponsive to keyboard input (I couldn't scroll down). After turning her off & making sure no connections were loose, I rebooted several times, each time the same story - except I gradually came to have more control over the help file: I could enter text, but still couldn't scroll down. After about 4-5 reboots, my system finally loaded as per usual. VERY WEIRD!!! What happened, and how do I prevent it from happening again?

SYSTEM INFO:
- Win ME
- Celeron 566 CPU, 64MB RAM
- Seagate 20GB HDD
- TNT2 M64 32MB vga card
- BIOS version:1.0r01 WB1

10413 2001-03-26 02:09:00 It may not be related, but whenever I've rcvd BIOS checksum errors on bootup in the past it was due to the CMOS battery.
You could try checking the socket it sits in and make sure it is secure, or get a replacement one (normally a couple of dollars).
Hope this helps.

10414 2001-03-27 04:06:00 I checked the battery and it's fine. After removing and replacing it, though, my system loaded up as normal. May have been a fluke, since, as I said earlier, my system loaded up normally (after much resetting and fiddling) when I didn't touch the battery.

Anyone have any other ideas?
