| 10310 | 2001-03-22 04:58:00 | I see heaps of virus warnings, about this or that virus in Outlook Express, but can you get a virus if you don't use Outlook Express, and do all your mail as web mail. | Guest (0) | ||

Assuming of course that any attachments you download are scanned first. 90% of viruses are attachments and it is running these that infects your pc. It doesn't help that Microsoft products are full of holes and that these holes are what the viruses exploit. |

Don't forget it in the anti virus makers interests to make the whole issue as serious as possible, and it provides news for the media as well. | Guest (0) | ||
| 10313 | 2001-03-23 12:57:00 | ...good advice given above. I would also suggest the following: (a) disable active scripting in Outlook Express - easy to follow directions at this link: www.microsoft.com (b) enable viewing of VBS 'script' file extensions if currently hidden - as follows: Open My Computer, select Folder Options (under the View or Tools menu), select the File Types tab, then select 'VBScript Script File' from the list of Registered File Types. Then click Edit (in Windows 98) or Advanced (in Windows 2000) and put a tick inside the box labelled 'Always show extension'. Hit OK once. It is also advisable doing the same for the following file types: VBE (VBScript Encoded Script File) WSF (Windows Script File) WSH (Windows Script Host Settings File) (b) Should you have the misfortune to receive a virus - but want to save your Address Book 'contacts' from receiving any virus that redirects itself, disable the 'send messages immediately' function in Outlook Express. Go: Tools > Options > Send > then clear that check box > click Apply/OK. |

| 10314 | 2001-03-24 17:02:00 | How do make the folder options thing work for extensions with Windows 95? I have IE 5.5 but only 95. I followed what you said, but in 95 it is not there. | Guest (0) | ||
