| 10588 | 2001-03-28 11:43:00 | Problems / symptoms 1. IE5.5 opens very slowly (first time takes over one minute, then 3sec each time thereafter) 2. Outlook Express 5 opens even more slowly (first time 2.5mins, then 1min thereafter) 3. Various other windows slow to open eg Help screens 4. ScanDisk will scan A: perfectly, when scanning C: detects ?Windows or another program trying to write to this disk? when no other programs running 5. Defragmentation stalls at 0% 6. In Safe Mode, IE5.5 and OE5 open in 9 and 20 secs respectively (just acceptable) 7. In Safe Mode, ScanDisk and Defrag both work alright 8. System: W98, 80Mb Ram, 200 Mhz Compaq Presario 2230 9. Tried so far: Reinstalling IE5.5, OE5 and W98 ? no improvement 10. Virus checking up to date 11. Have used Evidence Eliminator v5 recently ? their techno guys say that my problems are definitely not associated with EE5 12. Is it possible to check if RAM upgrade is actually working ? ie My Computer and Compaq recognise that I have upgraded from 16Mb to 80Mb but how do I know if it is still actually functioning at 80Mb Please help It is getting unbelievably slow and I can?t go without it for the next 2 months at least ? assignments due etc. Cheers Bruce |
