2012-04-24 12:03:00 | Tosh L500. I recently replaced the HDD with an OCZ SSD (240 gig) and everything is fine except, occasionally, the machine freezes with the HDD/SSD light on continuously for 2-3 minutes...and then resumes as if nothing happened. Win 7, right up to date, office 2007, lots of other software, but I can discern nothing in particular that precedes the problem, though maybe more often when I am using Outlook. Malwarebytes and MS Security Essentials, no apparent viruses. Chkdsk reports no problems. Reliability reports nothing. I do run quite a lot off it -- external monitor and intelli mouse and keyboard, a toshiba laptop extender thing (forgot name), external usb backup drive, Brother laser, and HP color inkjet, printers, and a nasty cheap NAS (but the problem occurs even when this is turned off). Wireless network. Never had the problem when it ran the HDD, so I am thinking it is something to do with the SSD. Has anyone any ideas? Many thanks

Maybe your system is configured to compress these folders, which in some cases can involve re-writing a GB of data (which isn't great for SSD's with their limitations on lifetime writing issues). Just a guess. Have you updated drivers to suit the SSD? |

2012-04-25 00:44:00 | Many thanks. I have 2 profiles on outlook, 1 exchange and one tcom yahoo. The former is large. However, because I didn't get this problem with my HDD (and that would be slower to rewrite), I don't think it is that one -- but I will check. I also looked this morning at the OCZ website for updated drivers, and this looks like a horrible process which can't be done through windows. I do seem to be getting The device, \Device\Ide\iaStor0, did not respond within the timeout period. quite often (once every 2 days or so), so I guess this points in the same direction, if I read it right. Do I?

2012-04-25 00:50:00 | Here's info / an explanation of that timeout error (social.technet.microsoft.com). What version of the SATA drivers are installed? Theyre up to 10.8 now | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |

2012-04-25 01:24:00 | Terrrific, thanks Speedy, looks like this is it, but newbie question -- am I disabling LPM or enabling it? I presume disabling. Divers do seem to be old (6.1.76...), but I'll do one thing at a time. | Michael@home (10396) | |
2012-04-25 01:36:00 | Did you install the Rapid storage tech program as well? This is up to 10.8.0.1033 | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2012-04-25 05:05:00 | Intel rapid storage now installed. Will report back in a few days. | Michael@home (10396) | |
2012-05-04 10:56:00 | Good news. I have had no further hangs since updating the new intel rapid storage. Passing strange that installing the OCZ SSD did not check and update this. Thank you, Speedy. | Michael@home (10396) | |
