1271215 2012-04-22 09:02:00 Had a 2TB external hard drive brought to me today and I was asked to copy off some of the files for a friend.
Plugged external into my XP pc and it showed up in My Computer okay as Drive E: Used 1100gb, free space about 800gb.
Opened the folder and only 2 shortcuts were visible, both of which did not work.
Tried running malware bytes on the drive and it snaned away happily for an hour or so showing it was checking pictures, mp3's and a lot more.
After scan finished, I once again tried opening the E: drive and only the 2 files are visible to me.
Then tried doing exactly the same using my Win 7 PC and result is the same?
Anyone have any idea why these files are not visible please?
Had a similar thing happen yesterday when slaving an IDE 40GB hard drive ( propertirs shows there is plenty on the drives but nothing showing as visible?

1271216 2012-04-22 09:04:00 You may have to take ownership of the hdd. If its from another computer Speedy Gonzales (78)
1271217 2012-04-22 09:08:00 Will taking ownership also give permissions to alter or copy off files Speedy? minster (9180)
1271218 2012-04-22 09:12:00 Should I've never had to take ownership of a hdd myself. If youre using Win7 get this. Unzip it then dbl click on it. Then select the option with a right mouse on that hdd (www.howtogeek.com) Speedy Gonzales (78)
