1271173 2012-04-22 06:40:00 I have a couple of old books I'd like to scan, but wondering if there is any good software designed for this task and can automate most of it?

The books are small enough to fit 2 pages at once in the scanner but I don't want to end up with both pages in a single image because due to physical properties of the books, the pages often don't come out straight and the resulting image is annoying to look at.

Is there something that can take the single scanned image and separate out the pages, straighten them and crop to equal sizes automatically? Or is this asking too much?

1271174 2012-04-22 06:54:00 You'll probably want an OCR program? I just use Foxit PhantomPDF, which scans and saves whatever to PDF. Dont know how good it is with 2 pages. Havent tried that yet Speedy Gonzales (78)

1271176 2012-04-22 09:15:00 Try Scan Tailor and Book Scan Wizard from Sourceforge. Seems students use them for DIY ( Software links are in the article. Maybe search for free public book domains to see if they already exist online for digital download, e.g. Project Gutenberg. Book Scan Wizard looks like it's just for cameras not scanners, though - but that doesn't matter, I can batch-scan with my current scanner program anyway and then feed the resulting images into Scan Tailor for processing...
