1271097 2012-04-22 00:25:00 My LG monitor refused to turn on this morning.

Pull out the power cable, plugged it again, it turns on for a while (2-3 minutes) goes OFF again.

What could be the cause? Have changed another power cable, still the same.

Bought it in end of February, 2009, the warranty just lapsed. Does it worth repairing?

1271098 2012-04-22 00:40:00 Sounds like it's overheating, or perhaps dry solder joints, might be worth fixing.
You could try quoting the Consumer Guarantee Act at them (is it a reasonable period of use).

1271099 2012-04-22 01:02:00 I had a similar problem with my LG Monitor. It was something to do with the power supply. Luckily it was covered by the guarentee(just). They had me take it to I Fix4u in East Tamaki, don't expect any speedy repairs( based on my experience), but it is still going strong a couple of years later. I agree with feersumendjinn you have a good case under the CGA. PPp (9511)
1271100 2012-04-22 01:35:00 Just spoke to PB Tech and as expected, they will not honour the warranty as it has expired; mentioned the CGA, but still they won't comprise. :( bk T (215)

Push them, threaten to take them to the disputes tribunal if you are that way inclined, as you have not got a reasonable life out of the monitor, but that is your call. It also depends if it is worth the hassle and stress on your part too do so.

1271103 2012-04-22 07:34:00 Ask to talk to the Manager, point out to him his obligations under the CGA and how unreasonable his stance is given the timeline, also point out to him the bad publicity he is likely to get from the problem coming up in the forum without a satisfactory result (and any other forums etc. you choose to air your problem). Assure him you will be taking your claim to the Disputes Tribunal unless he comes up with a satisfactory solution. Follow through! PPp (9511)
1271104 2012-04-22 10:47:00 Do you guys think that I am not being UNREASONABLE, considering the fact that the 3 years warranty has lapsed about 2 months ago?

I don't want to create a scene for being unreasonable. If, I were to take it further to the Disputes Tribunal, do I stand a chance in winning the case?

1271105 2012-04-22 11:04:00 Read trevs post #6, that basically kind of covers it -- meaning if you want to take it further under the CGA, are you prepared to wait possibly months for a outcome. There is no fixed time limit as to how long they have to take to repair, parts may or may not be available, or have to be obtained from overseas, this applies even more so for older no longer produced product - only says a reasonable time and thats left in those terms on purpose. Whats reasonable to one person is not reasonable to another or the job type.

Can tell you right now, the Disputes Tribunal don't exactly move fast, so it could be a couple of months before it even get to the stage of being heard.

Personally I wouldn't bugger about with PB, go directly to LG -- Once I had a Viewsonic LCD blow after its 3 year warranty, it was roughly 1 -1/2 months over - The supplier didn't want to know as it was out of warranty, called Viewsonic and they still replaced it no worries. Was even a newer/Better model

1271106 2012-04-22 11:15:00 The Warrenty has nothing to do with a claim under CGA. Under the CGA The goods must be of "Acceptable Quality" and that includes durability. I don't know what the lifetime of a LCD monitor should be , but I would have thought somewhere around the lifetime of a LCD TV or at leasr 10 years+ ? The fact it has a 3 year warrenty means that the manufacturer must think it is a good quality monitor. In my opinion I would have thought you had a pretty good case. Have a good look at the other links on the page I posted, they elaborate other aspects of the CGA. You might have to Google to get more information, there is plenty out there. PPp (9511)
