1248809 2011-12-15 07:57:00 Got one of these through the post today . Didn't order it and reading the small print if you activate it & then don't use it for 3months it costs you $2/month in account fees . Unless I'm missing something . Guess I could just not activate it?

Anyone else got one & can shed some light on this and if its a good offer or not?

Cheers

1248811 2011-12-15 08:27:00 You don't have to activate the debit card part if you don't want to. So you don't get the fees. I think though .. if you have $500 in the account you are exempt, in which form I am not sure about. I just got mine.

AirNZ has said that if they get 15% of their clients activating the debit card they would be happy.

1248812 2011-12-15 08:42:00 I hope they are not too important, I gave mine to a young (maybe 14 yo) lad trying to entice me to buy beer for him outside a supermarket. I hope he has a great deal of luck with it - he may go far. With a modicum of luck, he and his young friends manage to finagle the system and rip it to shreds. He was given it in Papakura, I hauled it from my mail on the North Shore, let the mayhem spread. If this crap actually originated with Air New Zealand, then I hope their Airbuses fester and implode. If they were not the originators, may their Airbuses implode unfestered.

It is not that I am against spammers and scammers (unless their activities are targetted outside Bellamys client list), but I have a few fast rotating objects in mind that should be held against them.
Regrettably, I didn't read the fine print, and seem to have missed the large bits too, but I really hope that in some small way I have made the festive season really miserable for the clown that originated the scheme.

1248814 2011-12-15 18:39:00 This is your replacement AirPoints card. As mentioned earlier, the debit-card portion is optional, and if you don't activate it, you won't be charged anything.

You should have received a letter several weeks ago explaining everything.

From what I saw of a long post on this at Geekzone you have to put $500 / month every month on this card to prevent fees..

1248817 2011-12-16 07:55:00 The only problem I have with this card is that I currently have my Vic Student ID on one side of my wallet and my Snapper card on the other. This way I can just touch the appropriate side of my wallet to the appropriate device. Adding another card to the mix causes problems as multiple cards tends to thwart the readers! I will be leaving the Airpoints card at home :p george12 (7)
1248818 2011-12-16 08:14:00 Within NZ, the new AirNZ doesn't really give you anything . It's the same as the AirNZ/Flybuys card that might have been shipped out a year ago

If you use the new card in NZ ATMs, it cost $1 . 50 per time . ATMs are only free overseas .
Compared to a std CC or EFTPOS, the AirNZ card has a $1 fee each time you top up the funds .
If you use it too often and get below $500, they have penalty fees :p so you need top up and pay the lesser fee .
It is a Flybuys card and you get e-pass for domestic flights but you can get that on a Smartphone .

If you need multiple currencies it is cheaper than other solutions like Kiwibank/National Bank to name (2) - no comm charges and no ATM fees when abroad . That's about it .
e-pass only works for domestic flights in NZ .
