| 1248676 | 2011-12-15 02:00:00 | Very sad. She was a real character all right. In the course of my work in Wgtn in the 1970's and 1980's I met a lot of young fellas that she took under her wing and helped them keep out of harm's way until they grew up a bit. The cops seemed to have a mixed relationship with her - many respected her for what she did to keep young kids on the straight and narrow, but there were a few that couldn't wait to bust her for various things. I think it depended upon the degree of maturity and open mindedness of the cops involved. There will be many people who remember her with gratitude and aroha. I should imagine that Georgina Beyer will be one of them. Do you recall that she was summonsed to Parliament to answer a charge of contempt? She said that given that about 10% of the population are homosexual, then 10% of MPs were probably homosexual if they were truly representative of the community. The pollies choked on their crackers, and summonsed her. Dickheads. Carmen was worth more than most of that shower, and they only proved that point by their behaviour. |

Be more than 10% now especially in the green and labor parties. |
