How pathetic can you get.:groan: I remember you in another post ranting about the time smokers waste and yet I have caught you wasting time on the net during working hours so I can only assume you are two faced. |

| 1249454 | 2011-12-20 13:04:00 | nobody has challenged my statement either: "Smoking is simply a waste of money, a health risk and it smells awful - there are no upsides." Anyone who tries to disagree with that is clearly in denial or deluded. There is actually an upside with smoking, and that is that it increases your metabolism by making your heart beat faster. So saying there are no upsides is simply not true. So, in theory, with a higher metabolic rate, you shouldnt put on as much weight as a non smoker if you ate the same amount of food. However, of course it doesnt offset the bad things smoking does which we are all aware of. I wonder if there is any connection between the decrease in smokers and increase in obesity.... interesting thought.... |

| 1249455 | 2011-12-20 15:18:00 | @ Rob If I said I absolutely HATE heavy metal, or any kind of metal (it is actually true) that would be bitching. There is no physiological reason for me to hate it. That style of music play the exact same notes of the genre of music that I do like. The only difference is the arrangement and pace of those notes for some reason is not to my liking. I accept that genre is not to my liking and I have NEVER ever been on a thread here and posted anything against HEAVY METAL, of which there have been many, because I can not argue anything except, I just don't like the sound. I can be honest here and say I don't like your music Rob, I have actually listened to your samples you posted here mainly because I met you personally (albeit briefly) but although I wanted to enjoy it, I couldn't. I did however appreciate the skill required to produce your music and took into account the many very positive things posted here from others and it is obvious there is something in it that I don't fully understand. To claim we are 'bitching' is a bit offensive, let me explain. I actually understand why smokers do smoke. The physiological reasons (yes, personal enjoyment is the result) are well documented and relatively easy to understand. The psychological reasons are also easy to understand and I am actually surprised I don't smoke myself given the year I was born and the preceding decades and attitudes towards cigarettes, the demographic that do smoke and my personal upbringing ( nearly everyone in my family smoked, parents, uncles, cousins, siblings) but no one can deny the byproduct of cigarette smoke smells terrible and is risky to your health. I have yet to see a car air freshner called '2nd hand smoke'. What we are bitching here is that the act of one group being offensive to others. I do however agree with you Rob to a certain degree. My posts were not coming from the perspective of people that smoke in a drinking establishment and to that I missed the mark. I agree that those that don't like cigarette smoke that occurs while in a bar, get up and leave? If you feel strongly about it, tell staff why you are leaving but unless you live in a small town I am sure there are many other bars that are set up that would prevent 2nd hand smoke entering your air space. Surely getting drunk in a place where you are not pestered by 2nd hand smoke is going to make for a more enjoyable evening. I am sure there are bars where getting drunk satisfies the smokers and non smokers alike. |

| 1249457 | 2011-12-20 18:12:00 | Well this thread got a bit nasty. Smoke or don't smoke, it's a personal choice and that's how it should be. I don't care if you smoke and won't nag you about it as long as you aren't in my face with it. However, don't pretend there's nothing wrong with it, that 2nd hand smoke is not harmful or offensive, or that non-smokers are somehow in the wrong for not sharing your opinions. Not liking smoke is an opinion, I can't be wrong about what my own opinions are. Suggesting that it's sheep mentality does not somehow magically make me like smoke or remove the real and proven health risks associated with 2nd hand smoke. I don't go into smoking areas and complain at smokers, I don't seek out smokers and harass them. But I bloody well will complain if someone comes into my location or home and starts smoking where I'm forced to breathe it. I try and respect your choices, I expect you to try and respect mine. I think also you need to understand, many of the things people complain about are aimed not at the average smoker but rather at the anti-social idiots who delight in annoying people with it and starting an argument at the slightest hint of displeasure from someone. |

No, it's a gluttonous lifestyle, lack of self-control, and a few other things like that (For most people). |

How long has tobacco and cigarettes been around for, did the Vikings or Romans or Chinese for example have tobacco I wonder, and what was the first guy thinking who rolled a bit of grass up and lit it anyway, I wonder how many other varieties of plants he rolled up and smoked before discovering the tobacco plant. |
