1249531 2011-12-20 02:06:00 I have just done some work on a flat where the students had torched the kitchen and taken 40% of the whole building with it.

the situation was that the building owners had insurance, that will pay for the re-build.
the insurance company then got in touch with the students and is beating cash out of them at about $25 per week.
that's $25 per week for as many weeks as it takes to pay $100K.

from what you describe, your damage is likely to be less than 5K.
they will likely have insurance, but you can be sure that you will have to pay for the damage one way or another.

1249532 2011-12-20 02:15:00 Did the students have insurance? And was their damage intentional? hueybot3000 (3646)

1249534 2011-12-20 02:53:00 Well I'm sure they have insurance now. $25 a week to pay 100ishk...76 years!

Edit: Seeing as you seem to be the building type. Realistically what do you think the garage will need done? i don't know the terms for it but everything below the ceiling wood is fine except some light burns on a part of the wall. So to me the tin on the roof, the supporting wood and the electrical cables would all need replacing. Fuse box is fine but the wires are stuffed right around from about 1 metre from the fuse box

1249535 2011-12-20 02:55:00 Damn, wish I had a man shed like that. My garage is full of family history and relics from archaeological exploits under the house (1860's cottage).

I have managed to claim part of it though :p

At least you don't have to pay off too much re insurance

1249536 2011-12-20 02:57:00 I did like my cave. Had only really just got it set up to give the stockcar a decent hit over the xmas holidays. Had all the parts I needed and had nothing but time. But on the first day I stuffed it :-( hueybot3000 (3646)
1249537 2011-12-20 08:03:00 $1M eh. Looks like that should cover most of it, you will probably only be left with the electricians bill. The council fees will take most of the dosh. ;)

Best part is that no Hueybots or derivatives were damaged in making this smoke.

x 2. Good luck, Sam :)

1249538 2011-12-21 17:51:00 OK. Get your contents insurance policy out of the little tin box that you stored it away in all those years ago. Check the wording, mainly in the personal liability section. If you can't understand or cannot find the wording, contact your insurance company first thing in the morning. From past experience, and unless your insurer is a faulty one, you should have cover that you cause for accidental damage that you do to the structure of the rented property.

Get you insurer involved early!!!!!

Nice information here and this is very useful to me and i am really inspired from this and all the information regarding this available here.
