| 1271629 | 2012-04-28 06:50:00 | I found the uptime not as good in my experience. It's easier to keep a linux box maintained & patched & online. It's not really much different from FreePBX, take something such as Elastix and it takes most of the pain out. There's a lot that can go wrong, a *lot*, so I'd suggest starting a new thread with more information such as the IP ranges used and more. Most of the softphones are interchangeable, nothing special either way. I was running Asterisk in a VM on a XPPro SP3 PC before, thought it would be easier just to run 3CX on it instead of having to run a VM. So far, 3CX seems very easy to use, the 3CX soft phone works very well in Windows but the Android app is VERY crashy though. I managed to get both the Windows & Android soft phone to register as remote extension without having to VPN in first. Can call between the extensions whether they are local or remote and also can transfer calls, but I haven't been able divert incoming call on the SPA3102 to an extension and also want to make outgoing calls via the analog phone line attached to the SPA3102. Been trying to read up lots of info on the web but so far no luck yet. Do you have any quick pointers? I gather "Line1" is the incoming? and the "PSTN" is the outgoing in the SPA3102? |

Basically you need to have the PSTN call answered by 3CX and then 3CX forward the call back out, so you'll be looking to create an inbound route to your internal extension based on the DDI number. Unfortunately I'm a little out of my league with 3CX specifics, if it were Asterisk it would be another story ;) |

| 1271631 | 2012-04-29 11:37:00 | Not having much luck getting the SPA3102 to work with 3CX yet . Just about to give up on 3CX and try Asterisk again, as there seem to be experts in Asterisk around . Downloaded the latest 2 . 0 . 2 ISO and installed it as a VM . Upon boot up, it came up with the "init:x respawning too fast, disabled for 5 minutes" error . Tried the suggestion . . . "yum install gdm", when the system rebooted an error screen appeared about missing X-Server . Anyhow, I figure I can ignore the lack of X-server, as we don't really need to GUI on the console as way, since we're supposed to access Asterisk via the web UI . But here is the stumbling block, the VM has the IP 192 . 168 . 58 . 133 (VM set to default of NAT), the host LAN is 192 . 168 . 2 . x I can ping 192 . 168 . 58 . 133 from the host and vice versa, but I can't reach the Web UI from the host OS by going to http://192 . 168 . 58 . 133 . Tried ping from another PC on the LAN and that didn't even ping . Any ideas what I need to do to the VM to make it accessible? |

You may have to remove the old virtual NIC adapter and add the new one to make that change. I just installed VMware Player 4 instead of 3.14 and now the Bridged option work, the VM is on the same segment of the host LAN. But Asterisk and the web server do not appear to be started automatically, how can it be started manually? |

| 1271637 | 2012-04-30 08:28:00 | Which distribution are you using? I downloaded the latest AsteriskNow 2.0.2 ISO from Digium, thinking it will be just a boot and install. Was I wrong or what, anyway, to cut a long story short, I think the installation broke after CentOS itself was installed; no GUI or Desktop was installed, neither was Asterisk itself nor the Asterisk GUI. No sign of any of those when I looked around the file system. After manually installing gdm and gnome desktop, managed to install asterisk and the asterisk-gui and firefox and got the Asterisk GUI working in the VM! However, I still can't access the Asterisk-GUI from the Host even though it's on the same LAN segment. Upon checking the firewall settings in CentOS GUI, SSH/http/https were all unticked. That is strange as I was able to SSH in from the Host before I installed the GUI. Anyhow, by ticking those, it allowed me to SSH in from the host but still no http! Once I turn the firewall off completely, it works from the host or any other PC on the LAN. Well, only works in Chrome, didn't work in IE9 or Firefox 11, weird! Now is it going to be safe to run that with no firewall on? I will probably try to set the dial plans to block toll calls, will only use the line for outgoing local calls and diverting incoming calls to voice mail, so I can collect them when we are away. It took all day, but not bad I guess given that I knew ZILCH about Linux. Now, I will have to try to get the SPA3102 to talk to Asterisk! |

| 1271638 | 2012-04-30 08:43:00 | Cool! :) Yeah it's fine to have the firewall off, however if you're going to expose any ports to it then you'll want Fail2Ban to be installed. Do AsteriskNOW still use a different GUI of their own, or are they using FreePBX? |
