1271107 2012-04-22 11:29:00 The fact it has a 3 year warrenty means that the manufacturer must think it is a good quality monitor That means nothing, some manufactures put on a 3 year warranty on all their displays from the basic Value to the high end and everything in between.

Be aware that there are a lot of events that can be used to not allow a claim, no matter what some people advise. All it takes is one power surge and kiss goodbye any warranty, or rights under the CGA -- once damage has been done like that it doesn't apply because the device was subjected to power inputs it was never designed to handle, and completely beyond the manufactures control.

Bit like a customers laptop I have here - it is only a month old, they brought from Noel Leemings -- it feel in their spa pool and its stuffed now - Noel leeming just laughed when they tried to claim it under warranty, and the CGA certainly wont cover it. Its an insurance job now.
As I mentioned before, could take a couple or more months before its even heard at the Disputes Tribunal.

1271108 2012-04-22 11:35:00 Personally I wouldn't bother. My replacement mother boards PCIe slot stopped working 6 months outside its 3 year warranty. I didn't bother too ask Ascent about it under the CGA. It was only worth $155 new and I couldn't be bothered putting up with the stress and hassle of trying to claim anything on it. Just went and bought a new computer instead as the old one was coming up for replacement.

1271109 2012-04-22 11:47:00 Years ago when I was selling Amiga computers a customer brought there Amiga in saying that they had spelt some coffee on it and it had stopped working. It was still under warranty and was on HP so was covered by insurance. I sent it to the repairer who opened it and said it was un-repairable. The insurance company wanted the dried liquid tested and it was found out to be cat urine. As this wasn't covered by the insurance they refused to pay up for another one. I felt sorry for the people who had still quite a bit to pay off on the HP.

1271110 2012-04-22 23:44:00 .... but I would have thought somewhere around the lifetime of a LCD TV or at least 10 years+ ?

really... come on . time to get real people.

We buy these things because they are CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP, we dont go to a store & ask for a monitor that will last 5-10 years, we ask for the cheaper range (be honest)
The useful life of a monitor, 3-5 years . my 2c
You may only be refunded a % of the remaining expected life in disputes ???, not a full replacement cost.

1271111 2012-04-23 00:08:00 Update:

Rang LG NZ earlier this morning, spoke to her about the expired warranty and CGA and was told that she has to refer this matter to their higher authority in Australia and will get back to me later.

1271114 2012-04-23 03:11:00  See what happens when you go to the right end of the horse ;) no **** from PB Tech

The main suppliers, in this case LG will be doing it more for customer satisfaction than "required to".
