| 1248681 | 2011-12-15 08:23:00 | The Balcony was Carmen's place (Victoria Street?). I don't think she owned the Purple Onion did she? I remember someone else owning it, and by then it had a pretty bad reputation for alleged sly grogging to young kids. | John H (8) | ||

| 1248686 | 2011-12-18 19:53:00 | Mercer is at right angles to Willis. Parallel is Victoria St. Carmen had The Balcony nightclub at 57A Victoria, slightly north of the Dominion. I remember as a schoolboy in the mid 60's walking en-mass past the Purple Onion in Vivian with a teacher trying to stop any loitering by the photos in the window. | PaulD (232) | ||

I am sure that was before she set up The Balcony. There was another coffee bar in that neck of the woods called the Mexicali (sp?) but I can't remember whether Carmen owned it. |

The Mexicali was diagonal to the Empress Ballroom in Vivian St, Nick Smith treo was the resident band. |
