| 10693 | 2001-03-31 01:13:00 | i have networked my two coms, 1 athlon 1ghz and the other a p166mmx. I have installed two 10/100mb network cards, everything goes fine but when i try to access the data on my 166 it takes over 5 minutes to load into the hard drive(after i've logged on). And i just dont seem to be able to get any data out of it coz it takes so long. When i try to get stuff from my 1ghz to my 166 it is normal speed, as in accessing my normal hdd. Is this suppose to happen? or have i got some settings wrong? Any advice would be appreciated thx Bill |

Did you use a hub or did you direct connect them with a cross-over cable? If you used a hub, what sped is it? Check the speed/duplex settings for both cards as well. This is under the Properties for the ethernet card in the Advanced tab. If possible, set both cards to 100 Full Duplex (10/Full if using a 10 MHz hub). | Guest (0)

Seeing as it goes one way well, I'd suggest you may have a problem with netbios name resolution (due to node type)on one of the machines. If you try installing the Netbeui Protocol on both PCs and the problem goes away you'll know for sure. Also if you want to manually configure your cards I'd suggest 100Mb/s half duplex as long as your hub supports 100Mb/s |

If so check the software for a way to reset Windows to its default settings. Tweaking registry settings for MTU, RWIN and TLL can have a detrimental affect on all network connections. | Guest (0)
