10956 2001-04-06 22:25:00 I installed a Voodoo 3 3DFX video card on my AMD K6 2/350 based system runnning windows 95. On boot up I get two error messages

1. Error loading 3dfxcmn.dll a device attatched to the system is not fucntioning

2. DFXCMN.DLL is mission MFC42DLL:6467

I reinstalled the drivers and ran the detect new hardware routine and there seems to be no problems.

When playing high end games my system keeps crashing with Registry problems.

I have down loaded the latest drivers from 3DFX web sight with no luck.

I had a built in video output prior to installing this card, which I do not know how to revert to.

The FAQ in the driver manual say to celanup the windows registry, I do not know how to do this.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Martin Neale

10957 2001-04-10 13:16:00 After problems with my own Voodoo 3 card, this is what I did:

Uninstalled the 3dfx Tools,
uninstalled all the drivers, or delete them out of Windows\system. (Most of them are hidden and all named 3dfx....) Go to My Computer\Properties\Device Manager highlight the Display Adapter and list Drivers for details if needed.

Rebooted and ignored the complaints from Windows, installed v3-w9x-1.07.00 from 3dfx.com and rebooted.

The installation program actually tells you to remove all previous drivers and tools.

Might not be the best way, but it worked for me.
Onboard video is usually controlled by the BIOS, so you need to go in there and Enable\Disable as required.

Make sure that AGP is enabled if your Voodoo card is using this type of slot, if listed in the BIOS.

Check for conflicts etc in Device Manager after rebooting.

Hope this helps.
