10820 2001-04-04 02:14:00 Hi all, I have an external 8200 HP Cd writer. I have a Digital PC3000, In device manager under usb devices it says Intel 82371 ab/eb PCI to usb then under that it says USB Root hub then under that it has the CD Writer with an exclamation mark above it . Under properties of CD Writer it says Code 33, this device is not responding correctly to its drivers. Drivers are latest from HP site for 98SE. Yet on my notebook (toshiba) the drive works fine. Computer is seeing the drive in Device manager but not in Explorer where I need it..HELP? Guest (0)
10821 2001-04-04 11:22:00 We know then that the drive is ok because it works fine on the notbook. Therefore we have a couple of things to check.
Fisrt well check there is no complications between the cdwriter and the usb settings. Im assuming you have windows 98/98 se or Me for this procedure. Load the device manager via start > Settings > Control Panel > systems > decive manager. Under the title of cd-rom delete the cdwriter and then reboot the Pc. Upon the reboot Pc Connect the power supply and audiocables to the back of the CDWriter. Plug the USB data cable into the USB connector. Windows now may ask for the drivers insert the drivers and install, still no go???

Could be software on your Pc. There is a know problem with Easy Cd creator. If you have these programs installed then this may be your problem. What the fault is that windows medial player 7 installs unpon default a cd creator plugin so you can burn cds from windows media player 7. To Fix the problem Uninstall both media player 7 (make sure the whole program is removed, no plugins left behind) and the whole easy cd package as well.
After rebooting you should find your cdrw in my computer etc. Ok now to install these products so that can can co-exist together.
1) Install easy cd creator package. Apply all the necceray updates from the adaptec web site.
2) Now comes installing media player 7 (good thing it is on the lastest pc world cover disk). Choose a custom install. Scrollingg down through the plugins remove the tick next to adaptec create cd plugin. After rebooting you will find that your cdrw is still in explorer and that the easy cd package and media player playing are co-existing together quite well.

all the best
