10893 2001-04-05 12:21:00 Can any one tell me where in the registry the add\remove programs are found. It is annoying to find a PC that has had a folder deleted before a proper uninstall. Reference to these progs. should be able to be removed in the registry, shouldn't they.
Cheers
DD..

10894 2001-04-05 14:10:00 The safest way to remove references in the registry of programs which no longer exist on the system is by using a free utility called RegCleaner found at http://www.jv16.org.
It lists all the programs listed in the registry and removing an entry is simple and easy.

The registry key that holds the information for the uninstall strings is My Computer\ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Uninstall

Installing TweakUI off the March PCWorld CD will allow you to remove these entries also without editing the registry directly. Note that deleting these entries will only remove the entry in the add/remove programs folder, the program may left behind other entries in the registry.

A registry cleaning program such as that supplied with Norton Utilities may be more suitable as it would compact the registry and allow faster loading.
