| 10993 | 2001-04-07 07:24:00 | I have an old Artec Pentium 200 with a 2.1GB Quantum Pioneer hard drive. I have decided to upgrade the drive to a Seagate 40GB, Ultra ATA 100 drive. When I set the BIOS to Auto config it only says that the drive is an 8.5GB and cannot see the full size of the new hard drive. Is there an easy fix to this or do I have to upgrade the motherboard to something newer that will understand an Ultra ATA 100 drive. I have found a new motherboard that has Socket 7 support and a baby AT form factor that will fit straight into my case and support a P200 CPU, the board is a Gigabyte GA-5AA, do you know if this board will support a 40GB Ultra ATA 100 H/D? I have also found a PCI card from Dick Smith that offers support for Ultra ATA 66, will this be of any help. |

The bios on the controller card will detect the drive, your motherboard bios no longer will have to do that, so you will get the full capacitity of the drive with no further software. Boot up will take a little longer with a ATA/100 card. |
