However i cannot seem to find a small version that will fit on floppy (my 486 has no cd-rom drive), but I would also like a windows emulator type thing (such as x-windows) - can anyone tell me where to find a version such as this. 10976	2001-04-07 07:27:00	As far as I'm aware, it would be completely impossible to install Linux without the aid of a CDROM drive (unless you manually install the boot image, kernel modules, LILO, initscripts, etc.). However, you should be able to get a second hand 2X drive from the local scrap yard for little more than $20. Unfortunately, you won't be able to run X on a 486 unless you have heaps of RAM (i.e. 128Mb). I think a motherboard transplant may be in order. You'll also need to find a Video card with 1Mb of RAM, preferably 2Mb. If you do go ahead, make sure you get X 3.3.6 - 3.3.3 lacks support for many recent video cards, and 4.0.1 is very resource hungry. Good luck.	Guest (0)
