| 11054 | 2001-04-08 09:36:00 | Recently I upgraded my Office 97 to Office 2000. I was able to open, modify and save a '97 file in the new format, but later when I tried to open it, I get the message 'ab.xls cannot be accessed, The file may be read only, or you may be trying to access a read only location. Or the server the document is stored on may not be responding.' The file is on a floppy that has other files that I can access. Your help and solution would be hugely appreciated. |

| 11056 | 2001-04-11 09:14:00 | Hmmm! Possibly the Floppy disk may be corrupt at that point, this doesn't happen often but it can. Have you tried copying this file to your hard drive an opening it from there? If you can copy OK then the disk is probably fine, if you cannot open this from your hard drive then the file may be corrupt? In that case all may not be lost, you can try StarOffice (Free for personal use, but a hefty download) for Windows. Downloadable from www.sun.com/products/staroffice/get.html this may be able to unscramble the file, I say may... Good luck ; ) |

| 11057 | 2001-04-16 21:33:00 | hi techno thanks for looking into my excel fault. I can copy from a: to c: but can't open it from anywhere as a .xls file. I can change the extension to .doc and open it Notepad but not in Word (go figure). I initially suspected the problem to be in excel 2000 itself as one of the many bugs that seem to plague a new version. The patches for that are also a somewhat hefty download also. I'll take a look at the staroffice program. As a last resort, I may try to revert my excel back to '97. can you advise whether this is a sensible option? thanks again techno. |
