10962 2001-04-07 01:30:00 I have a PIII 500 using Windows 98 ver 2 with a Matrox G400.
When I attempt to adjust the VDU settings to a higher resolution than 640x480 pixels using 'Display Properties\Settings' the dialogue box appears to accept the settings and, if I press either 'Apply' or 'OK' states that the new settings will apply if I switch off and switch on. However, when I switch on the settings revert to 640x480. This applies to both my VDUs, both of which claim to be high resolution machines. How do I wrest control back from the machine?

10963 2001-04-07 01:59:00 If the 'Advanced' button is not greyed out in Display Properties-Settings, try checking the box 'Apply the new color settings without restarting'. I dont know about the Matrox G400 video card, but this is the area where video card software puts extra tabs for video display adjustment such as refresh rate, colour, etc.
You could also try downloading Microsoft Power Toys, in that package is QuickRes, which allows you to change resolution 'on the fly' from the system tray.
Good video card software will put an icon in your system tray which allows you to change settings directly.

10964 2001-04-07 03:57:00 I have the same set up as you. P 111 500, g400, and win 98se. I have no problems adjusting vdu settings. My comp. is almost always set at 1024 x 768 and with 32 bit ccolour.
I think If I was you I would closely at the monitor.
Jack.
