Your organization has decided to provide software updates internally rather than through Windows Update. To download updates for your Windows computer, please see your network administrator.'

Why? I have installed a standard single-user upgrade version of Windows Me for use on a single PC at home?? I am not part of any organisation!

11146 2001-04-10 23:00:00 The problem with the Windows Update Wizard is you have to register Windows on-line for it to work. Now you can either do that, or there is a registry work around.
The details of this is in the IDG book, More Windows 98 Secrets. If you are happy to make a .reg file and merge it into the registry, its as follows:
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion]
'RegDone'='1'
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Welcome\RegWiz]
'2'='1'

11147 2001-04-11 21:21:00 Thanks for the tip. Have imported the reg. settings and...it has made no difference...hmmm... Guest (0)
11148 2001-04-16 09:07:00 *** STEP1: Extract the following files from the Windows CD-ROM.
( They will be in one of the .cab files)
WUPDMGR.EXE --> extract this file to [..\windows]
WUPDINFO.DLL --> extract this file to [..\windows\system]

*** STEP2: Goto StartMenu > RUN; at the dialog box type in the following command-line syntax, then press Enter.

REGSVR32 WUPDINFO.DLL

*** STEP3: Import registry settings; see below...

(a) Copy & Paste the following data to Notepad and save it as a registry data file (i.e., Filename.reg)

NOTE: Prior to saving the file, replace 'HKCU' with 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER'; replace 'HKLM' with 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE' (without the quotes). Sorry I had to do this, but the regkey was too long to fit...

(b) Import the file (you've just saved) into the registry

----------- Copy & Paste here ------------------------------------

REGEDIT4

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Pol icies\Explorer]
'NoWindowsUpdate'=dword:00000000

[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\WindowsUpdate]
'UpdateURL'='wupdmgr.exe'
