11135 2001-04-10 10:29:00 I have decided to teach myself how to use Linux.

So I installed Redhat Linux 7.0.

Linux boots, I log in, I type 'startx' to load the GUI and I get the following errors:

(WW) Warning, couldn't open module v41
(EE) Failed to load module v41 (module does not exist, 0 )
(EE) No devices detected

Fatal Server Error.
no screens found

I have tryed typing 'xf86config' and configuring my system perfectly, but I still have the same problem. If there are any Linux gurus out there I would really appreciate some advice....Thanks...

11136 2001-04-10 12:32:00 Hello Scott,

Yes I hope I can help you, but first, what type of video card do you have? and was it detected during setup?

Another thing you can do is email me your /etc/xf86config file or if it can't be found there, try /etc/X11/xf86config

In that email could you also tell me how much video memory you have and what type of monitor you use (and it's refresh rates if you know these).

With this information I should be able to tell you what is causing your problems and make any adjustments to your xf86config file.

11137 2001-04-11 06:28:00 Try Xconfigurator instead. It's far more user-friendly.

If that fails, then you may need to try going back to version 3.3.6 (it sounds like you're currently using 4.0.1). To do this you'll need to get the appropriate RPMs for the X server and your video card, and install them from the command line.
