11366 2001-04-16 05:26:00 Greetings - I run Win98 from a clean install including the latest updates with Microsoft and other various software in a Fat32 environment which seems to work fine, even now. However after recently deciding to renew my Start-Up disc I found the program could not find command.com on my Win98 CD.
I foolishly decided to install Winzip 7 offered with your June 2000 edition, and on investigating my present crisis found all my cab files listed as Winzip files. I have since cleared the offending option in Winzip, but the Start-Up Disc program still cannot find command.com (in D:\Precopy1.cab)
MS Knowledge Base Q195834 refers to a similar problem and I tried to enter a new file type following these instructions (which I assume refers to a Registry entry). On clicking OK in the Action/Program Dialog, the message 'Specified program could not be found' appeared.
I am not a novice user, but being over 66 years of age,I find some of the techno speak a little bewildering.
Is there a simple answer to this mess ? Is it possible to make Start-Up Discs and still use Winzip 7?
Thanks
Jim Tregurtha

11367 2001-04-18 08:01:00 D is your CD Drive?

Have a look on the windows cd, the precopy1.cab should actually be in a subdirectory D:\win98\ not just in D:\

check in your registry (with regedit) that the setup path points to the location of your cab files.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Setup >> SourcePath

IE: if precopy1.cab is in d:\win98\ make sure this is what SourcePath points to

11368 2001-04-22 00:41:00 I have checked with the Registry Checker Tool & Dr Watson and both of these utilities report no errors.
Many Many thanks to `John Doe' for your prompt response -
The original HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Setup>>SourcePath line read D:\English\Driver\USB\Win98 which refers to a Graphics tablet I installed a couple of weeks ago. I have since edited this line to read D:\Win98\Precopy1.Cab\Command.Com and the Start-Up Disc Utility still cannot find Command.Com on drive D:
