11341 2001-04-15 09:11:00 i feel xtra has slipped in the last couple of months, my connection if i can get one is at certain times of the day, either very slow or unable to connect. the help desk just gets me to change things to slow down my modem or give up and tell me to ring back as my help time is up. is it the same for every one. 11342 2001-04-15 09:43:00 Hmmm! When did you connection problems begin? Have you checked with telecom faults and requested a line check for internet connectivity?
Has anyone been working on your exchange recently?

Slowing the modem down is employed usually because of line conditions, it's always a trade off between speed and stablity. Also line quality is dictated by area and distance from exchange. If you are in a rural area, things like electric fences can cause issues, ticking on the line e.t.c.

Other things to check, have you recently purchased a new/additional phone? or installed an extra jackpoint, or moved the pc to another room and are now using an extension cable? Err... Did the guys at Xtra ask you these questions?

In addition are there any new housing developments going on, as your exchange may be nearing capacity, just some thoughts... As for Xtra, well in some cases all they can do is slow your modem down, if it is truly a line or exchange issue then only Telecom can fix this.

Keep the faith...one day the government will wise up and New Zealand will get a real Telecommunications Infrastructure...

11343 2001-04-15 09:52:00 John - Totally agree with you. For at least two months I have been having connection problems. Most times it takes three attempts to connect. Sometimes it appears to connect and then disconnects almost immediately.
Nothing has changed at my address, no new phone, jackpoint, work on lines etc etc...nada. Just seems to have happened, previously I had excellent connection record.

11344 2001-04-16 06:11:00 well, ive always connected 1st time to xtra always, i used to have one line with 3 jack pts and i got connect speeds of around 45 - 46000 kbs, now ive got a anutha line just for the net and im hittin the net 1st time on dial up at bw 50000 and 52000 kbs, whoa..thats good for me, either its an exchange prob in ya area, or you may have to adjust the modem properties, play around with them and see how you go John.
Peace.

11345 2001-04-18 22:35:00 I'm having the same problems with ihug! Only difference is that I can't even ring them for help because their phone disconnects as well! Connecting to ihug is not too much of a problem but staying connected is. The connection goes dead and dosnt respond then disconnects. Any ideas? Guest (0)
