| 11335 | 2001-04-15 05:03:00 | Hi, I might have a DMA conflict here. When I enable DMA on my hard drive, the system starts to lock up for no reason (refer to CPU Lockups post). It may be in conflict with the Sound blaster, which uses DMA 1 and 5, I don't know how to change the DMA settings for both cases. Ok, my hard drive runs really slowly if i don't enable DMA (runs about 6 times faster with DMA on).. I really like this feature and don't wish to disable it. But i have to. Can someone tell me how to solve this problem please? oh, btw, my system spec is in the CPU Lockups thread (name: James Jiao) thanks - James |

I doubt your sound card drivers would even load if there was a confict there. There are a whole plethora of PCI settings that you can try to adjust to improve your stability (eg waitstates, buffering, etc)as the harddrive controller is actually on the PCI bus. I'd suspect the crashes may be caused by something else, and the harddrive DMA just agrovates it. |
