I'd like to set-up a network between a PC in my home and my brothers laptop at his place, using the phone line as communication channel. I don't quite understand what happens after I install the network cards and software!! How does my brother go about dialing into my pc (or vice-versa)? Is there different software for local networks than for remote access networks? I'd appreciate any help/asistance anyone can offer. |

if you are using standard telephone wiring you need modems not network cards. you can use hyperterminal which is in windows (there is an upgraded version advailable).
dailing in to the pc is the easy part. enter phone nuber, dail on pc, accept at other end. it would be a lot easier if you both had internet access and set up a ftp server. |

Another easy solution using modems is Norton pcANYWHERE, which will allow you to go into your brother's computer and operate it as though you were sitting in front of it. Also has a nice file transfer utility and lots of other goodies. Hope this helps. |
