| 11297 | 2001-04-13 22:43:00 | Dear Sir, I just bought a USB Peer-Peer network cable with the intention of setting up a two computer network at home. I know I need to have Microsoft Client for Networks (MCN) configured on both computers and therein lies the problem. On my main PC, a PIII 733MHZ with 128mb RAM and WIN98SE, the primory logon is currently The Microsoft Family logon and when I try to configure MCN I end up with a corrupted video display and it also fails to re-boot correctly and usually tries to restart and then shuts down. When I restart the machine my video display is back to 16 bit and I have to re-install my monitor and video drivers. That is if I can get windows to start at all. Fortunately I run Powerquest's Second Chance which allows me to get some semblance of windows running so I can re-install my video drivers. On the other PC the current logon is Windows logon and no matter how often I try to configure MCN it just won't accept the new settings. The procedure is normal until after reboot and when I check my network clients MCN is still not configured and I get the message that my network is not complete, would I like to continue? Even though I say yes and go through the procedure again it still does not set up the client. This PC is also WIN98SE, PII 266MHZ with 128mb of RAM. I hope you or someone has some idea how I can resolve this dilemma. By the way, I have an ULTRA connection via IHUG on my main machine so I hope this is not part of the problem. Thank you for your time, Ron Keilty |
