11522 2001-04-18 13:49:00 A Laptop running Win 3.11 1.2Gb hard disk that had not been used for some time started up with most of its programs working. Ran scandisk on autofix, returned to find that all empty sectors were marked as bad. Cause of error was the incorrect CMOS setting on startup as it chose IDE rather than Enhanced IDE.
HOW do I remove or relabel these 'Bad Sectors' as good so they can be rechecked.

rechecks sectors marked as bad - no other way.
Yes - you have to reinstall everything from scratch.

11524 2001-04-19 19:46:00 Being 3.11 I'D give Norton v6.0 disk doctor a go,as this version also has a powerful disk edit program with it,still failing that NDD is a must.Might be a bit difficult to procure now,but somebody you know might have it in their junk box. Guest (0)
11525 2001-04-21 20:09:00 It could simply be a Tojan/worm or virus, some just keep writting to the patition table, worse some acctually write to the bios,no cure for the latter one except bios replacement,or if it's flashable rewritting to it,with the appropriate bios manufacturers download.
