11719 2001-04-23 06:22:00 Tried to upgrade IE4.72 by downloading IE5.5 from Microsoft. Download successful and setup initiated. For some reason it did not work,so shut down.

Now on bootup get a message that setup was not completed and do I want to run it again. Have tried a number of times to no avail.

Tried to uninstall IE5.5 but no go because get another message that setup was not completed successfully.

Now on bootup get another message that 'Windows encountered an error accessing the system registry. Winmdows will restart and repair the system registry for you'

Tried this several times but still no go.

Can still use IE4.72 and still don't like it!

Any suggestions anyone?

Regards
Gordon

11721 2001-04-26 13:27:00 hi Gordon,
The same thing happened to me and couldn't find anything that could help downloading from a mag and u will find u will have the same problem so the only I sould do was delete the file IEXPLORE.EXE found in c:\program files\internet Explorer. then Try and then install the 5.5 sp1 version of explorer. It should work as that is what I did and if it doesn't u can just restore that file.
Good luck
