| 11705 | 2001-04-23 13:49:00 | ...a few useful tips: (i) for those running a Windows Operating System the most useful resource is right at your fingertips inside the 'Windows Resource Kit'. Sometimes refered to as the 'hidden tool kit', this colossal ResKIT is equivalent to a 1,700-page book and can answer a huge range of Windows setup, deployment, troubleshooting, operational and tuning questions. Plus, the ResKit comes with more than two dozen powerful software tools and utilities that let you do things with Windows you may not have imagined possible. Its combination of tools and information add up to more than 24MB. The simplest way to use the ResKit is through a full install. Navigate to the \TOOLS\RESKIT\SETUP directory on the Windows Installation CD and run CDSETUP.EXE. This installs the Microsoft Management Console, which is an easy-to-use front end to the ResKit tools and online documentation. The installation takes only a minute and copies about 11MB of files to your hard drive. Or, you can read brief Help file descriptions of all the major tools in the ResKit by clicking on \TOOLS\RESKIT\HELP\WIN98RK.HLP from inside Windows Explorer. (ii) If you do not have an installation disc go to the following Miscosoft Site and drill down through the 'View' panel (click on the + tabs in the Index, left of screen) until you find the Operating System, Utility or other function of interest: www.microsoft.com (iii) Use the 'Google' search engine <www.google.com or the Microsoft Knowledge base <search.support.microsoft.com to seek out either specific or general issues. |
