| 11680 | 2001-04-22 10:01:00 | CD ROM Hi...could any 1 plz tell me y me cd rom isn't quite like it used to be??? I have a 36x Sony Cd rom and well...lately i've noticed that..well its **** slow...not just bcos i've sen faster but also with music cds it often stops responding for a while then resumes (like a 2 second long skip).... My friend suggested that it could be some laser problem... I am running a celeron 300 with 192 mb ram All suggestions WELCOME!! |

| 11681 | 2001-04-22 23:49:00 | Hi there, It could be like your friend said, a laser problem, if its got a dirty laser head it may require cleaning. You can buy a cleaning kit from Dick Smith, I don't think they are too expensive, and it may help. Depends on how much dust is on the CD roms you put in. CD rom drives are notorious for letting dust in and are probably, along with the floppy drive one of the most neglected parts in a computer. Another thought, perhaps you might be using too small cd rom cache. Try setting it to large for high speed cd-roms. You haven't by any chance o'clocked the Celeron, that sometimes has an effect on the periferals. Regards Fred |
