11668 2001-04-22 03:21:00 Hello,

Over the last 6 months I have been sent several emails from friends with attached files that have a .pps extension. When I try to open the file I get an error message (no associated application). I thought that perhaps the files were something to do with Powerpoint so I installed a Powerpoint Viewer but it appears the viewer can only open .ppt files.

Can anyone please tell me which program will open a .pps file?

Thanks.

11669 2001-04-22 03:48:00 ...*.pps files are for the 'Microsoft PowerPoint Slide Show'. This programme can be downloaded from the Microsoft site. Guest (0)
11670 2001-04-22 04:20:00 ...and here's a handy hint for those users who have and enjoy viewing a large number of image files and want something better than the default Viewer packaged with Windows - but without the bulk of Photoshop.

A Freeware utility called 'IrfanView' made by Irfan Skiljan, Woellersdorf, Austria. It can be downloaded from his home page at:

stud1.tuwien.ac.at

Although small in size (758kb) it is quite sophisticated and able to view over 30 image file extensions, plus all the usual video and sound files.

NOTE: one must first install the *.pps programme before Irfan can open that particular file extension.

Enjoy!!!

11671 2001-04-22 04:52:00 Thanks for your help. I will go to the MS website and download the PP Slide Show program. I think I already have IrFan View on CD somewhere (but not installed).

Cheers

11672 2001-04-22 12:49:00 ...oops, sorry Sharea - i may have put you slightly wrong with regards the download of 'Slide Show'. However, I've rounded up Microsoft's Knowledge Base articles on the topic and you may view all of them here:
