| 11652 | 2001-04-21 22:28:00 | My brother in law wanted to install a Linux partition on his Win98 computer. He stuffed up along the way and Linux took over the whole hard drive and he lost his Win98 partition. In addition the Linux installation failed and the Linux OS crashes during the boot up process. I have been trying to get rid of Linux for him. I have performed the following steps -booted from a Win98 boot disk -used FDISK to remove the Linux partition -used FDISK to set up a new Win98 partition -made the Win98 partition active -formatted the C: drive and copied over the system files After performing these steps the Linux partition appears to be gone but when the computer is restarted the Linux OS appears again. Anyone got any ideas? |

I am very sure that you did not install your linux on the master boot record, cause if you didn't, then the linux boot system (i'm asuming it's lilo) would be on the main drive. try reinstalling linux and then formmating the whole drive. I have had the same problem, accept i did it on a friends computer first heheh. If you still have any problems then post another topic saying what you have done in the reinstallation in the new partion. and also don't use the same disk amount, becuase some older versions of linux don't reformat the partion first. well laterz |
