11872 2001-04-27 08:18:00 I have a Athlon 1000 B chip, and I understand that this chip is supposed to be running at 100 MHz FSB. However I know that I would be able to get a better performance if I unlock it, set it on 7.5 and set the FSB to 133 MHz. If I do this, will I be overclocking my processor?? and Will it harm my processor?? Guest (0)
11873 2001-04-28 04:11:00 Hi Jeff,
I presume by unlocking it you mean with a graphite pencil line or similar technique? If this is sucessful, then no, you won't be overclocking your processor. As for harming you processor, I guess it depends on how good a job of unlocking it you do. For example, if the join were to intermitantly break and flick the multiplyer lock on during operation then I suppose it could be nasty.

11874 2001-04-28 04:18:00 A lot of people think a AMD chip is not being the best it can be if it is left unclocked.

They tend to be more reliable overclocked than any other chip, decision of course is always yours.

11875 2001-04-28 09:13:00 running speeds (fsb or clock speed)higher than manafacturs spec's is called overclocking. overclocking can result in some excelent speed increases but usually lose stabilty. the easiest is to increase in small steps testing between each step and when it starts glitching wind the speed back a notch or two.
whether it is worth it is up to you, speed or stabilty.

it's not overclocking if you can change the multiplier as well as the FSB speed!!!
