| 11779 | 2001-04-25 03:53:00 | I'm wanting to transfer all my Outlook Express mail and addresses from my old laptop to my new one - again using Express, via a 100Mb Zip disk. How do I go about achieving this? |

| 11780 | 2001-04-25 09:07:00 | I recently did this in Outlook Express 5. I don't think OE5 makes this as easy as it could. In Outlook Express click File > Export > Messages. A message told me that the messages would be exported to MS Outlook or MS Exchange. I had Outlook and it exported them there without giving me a choice. When you click OK, the next screen allows you to choose the folders to export from. In the next step it transfered a copy of the messages to the folders with the same name in Outlook. I guess it would go smoother if made sure you had the appropriate folders first. In Outlook on the File menu, click Import and Export and choose the 'Export to a personal folder file (.pst)' option. In the next few steps it gives you options of which folders to export and where to store the .pst file. This could be directly to your zip disk or to any folder and later to your disk. In Outlook on the other computer just do the reverse, then in Outlook Express when you click Import you can choose Outlook, and follow similar steps as was done previously. When exporting the Address Book I could do it without Outlook. I chose export to Text File (Comma Seperated Values) and to my surprise, it exported it into Excel. You just store that file on the disk etc. When Importing from the other end a window pops up where you can choose the file to import. The next window shows you the fields from both programs, click 'Change Field Mapping' if you want to make changes. This being a late version of Outlook Express, I thought it would give me more options to export messages than just Exchange or Outlook. Another way would be to individually save each message on to the Zip disk with the 'Save As' comand, then open them up one by one directly from the disk in the other computer and click File > Move to Folder. |
