11851 2001-04-27 02:06:00 I have new pc (3 mth old)with Windows me edition. Some of the software on your cd I already have and some I don't know if I have.Would it do bad things to install something I already have? Can I pick and choose progs of your cd?Is there easy way to see if I have particular version?Worse case scenario is there an undo function somewhere?
Cheers,Nick

11852 2001-04-28 07:48:00 You are fine to selectively install things you want and not install things you don't. However there are a couple od things you should check if you are going to reinstall things from the CD that are already installed on your PC. Firstly, you should be aware that some of the programs on the CD may be trial versions of the programs, and that if you install these over the top of the already installed programs on your system, this could cause problems when the trial period expires.
Secondly, you should make sure that you are not installing older versions of programs over the top of more recent versions - as this can cause problems too. If you are not sure what the current version of a program that is installed on your PC is, you can often check by starting the program, going to the help menu and choosing the 'About' option (if there is one). This usually tells you what the version of the program is.

Generally when you install programs, if they are well behaved they will provide an uninstall option (to uninstall a program, go to Control Panel, choose 'Add/Remove programs' and then select the program you want to remove from the list'

There are also programs that specialise in 'uninstalling other programs' - such as McAfee's UnInstaller, or Wash'n'Go (a shareware utility available from http://www.tucows.com)
