1273290 2012-05-02 08:22:00 I recently sold my macbook which I used for sharing internet to my desktop. So I switched to another laptop. When sharing off the macbook internet worked fine. Off the new laptop however it doesn't. Windows says that I'm connected to the internet. I can log into steam and use the chat function in logmein hamachi which other people can see. When I ping my desktop via hamachi with my laptop i get a reply. Did a speedtest (on the laptop), internet speed is fine. I'm confused because for a short time i have used this laptop to share internet to my desktop and it worked 100% fine. Can't think of any settings i've changed. Any ideas?

I get the server taking too long to respond error in firefox, the generic one in ie and the stea store gives me err. 118 (server's down or network connection error). Tried restarting both computers.

1273291 2012-05-02 08:26:00 So you can still go to websites with a browser? Since you went to the speedtest site. Even tho windows say youre not connected? Usually if you can update (or do anything else but go to websites), it can be a proxy problem. Something is under the proxy option in FF or whatever browser. That stops it from going to websites / from you using a browser Speedy Gonzales (78)
1273292 2012-05-02 08:41:00 Windows is saying i am connected to the internet when in reality I cannot load any webpages (they just time out), this is on my desktop. I loaded speedtest on my laptop. icow (15313)
1273293 2012-05-02 08:57:00 See if there's anything under the proxy settings in whatever browser. Right mouse on the nic icon in the taskbar / select trouibleshoot probs if win7 is on it. Or whatever is there (depending on the version of windows). See what it says or what it fixes Speedy Gonzales (78)
1273294 2012-05-02 09:04:00 Firefox (on the desktop) has no proxy settings put in. Just like the laptop. Can I even bring up the trouble shoot thingy when windows thinks that the computer is connected to the internet?.

Using w7.

1273295 2012-05-02 09:17:00 Troubleshoot problems / right mouse on the monitor on the taskbar / whatever you call it, this will check whats wrong and tell you whats wrong. And will try and fix it. If it brings up an error, tell us what it says Speedy Gonzales (78)
1273296 2012-05-02 09:24:00 Oh right found it. "Your broadband modem is experiencing connectivity issues" -_- even though ever other computer in the house appears to be working fine. Including the laptop which it my desktop is getting its internet from. Instructions just say restart or reset the modem. Tried that. Didn't work.

Edit: went on one step further. Said something about there being connectivity issues somewhere between the pc and modem.

1273297 2012-05-02 09:31:00 Hmm i had the same error, when I changed modem last week. I had to type Telstra's info into the router (the VCI/etc, and my username / password. Did you type your ISP's info in the router? How is the desktop connected? Wired or wireless? And how is the laptop connected? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1273298 2012-05-02 09:48:00 Laptop is connected via wireless. Desktop is connected via an ethernet cable to the laptop (sharing the wireless). ISP information should still be in the router as it has not been reset recently. Router setting has basically remained untouched since it was setup about 6 months ago. icow (15313)
1273299 2012-05-02 09:52:00 I have got the same network setup as you. Under "adaptor settings" for the LAN connection on the desktop, have DNS addresses been specified? Renmoo (66)
