| 1273182 | 2012-05-01 22:57:00 | Hi guys, a few days ago a thin green line appeared on the left side of my laptop screen, recently another hardly noticable has also appeared right near the first one, i took a screen shot of it but can't work out how to upload it to here to show you. I got this laptop second hand a couple years back so if its going to get a lot worse fairly quickly and going to cost big bucks to fix, it is not probably worth it. it is a toshiba Tecra a3. any good advise is appreciated. thank you. |

| 1273183 | 2012-05-01 23:10:00 | Vertical lines on an LCD usually indicate a failure of the LCD itself, but some problems can even be caused by a faulty video cable itself. If you know how to replace the LCD yourself, or have a friend who can do it etc, you could try buying a cheap one on eBay or such. |

| 1273184 | 2012-05-01 23:57:00 | Silly question perhaps but do the green lines show up in the screenshot? because if the monitor is faulty they won't be in the image. One way to show images on forums is to upload them to a website and link them. I occasionally use imageshack for that. 3 possibilities; 1. screen is faulty and needs replacing - do the lines show up all the time, even while booting? 2. Graphics card (well the laptop version of one) is faulty 3. Software or driver problem, which is the only one that's fixable without spending money Try holding down F8 while booting to bring up the menu then booting into safe mode. If the green lines still appear it's probably a hardware fault. |

Yes the green line appears on boot up and in safe mode, i unistalled the driver then went to toshiba and downloaded and installed the driver again which done nothing. I also used my other PC s large lcd screen connected it up, held down the appropiate buttons [ info found on the net ] it showed the windows welcome screen. So it sounds like a hardware issue LCD screen, graphic cables perhaps, i have never worked on a laptop before only tower type computors but will have a go if it gets worse than it is now, i can live with it as it is, but depends on how it deteriorates. | 1273190 | 2012-05-04 04:12:00 | I think it is the connections on the LCD panel, if I recall correctly it is sometimes fixable but very tricky and not worth the effort/risk involved. Or, you could replace the LCD panel, which would be much easier. Or easier still just get a new laptop :) Had the same problem on a laptop for a few years, didn't get any worse. If I was in your situation, I'd just keep using it until you need to upgrade for other reasons |
