1272900 2012-04-30 07:34:00 Hi there,

My Acer Aspire 5741g has started overheating due to the fan stopped working and i only get half an hr max out it. Ive tried to take it apart, removed all the screws that I can see underneath, im actually having difficulty with the keyboard. I am wondering if anyone has experience with this model. From I see there is clips above the F keys but I everytime I push it in or flip it up down it doesnt release.

Also, just a stab in the dark, does anyone know any part numbers for this model?

About the only part of a laptop that actually needs maintenance and they design it so you have to disassemble absolutely everything to get at it!
A simple cartridge filter or access cover would be far too simple, but I suppose they would sell less laptops then.

1272903 2012-04-30 09:39:00 yeah thanks for the replies, I persurvered and managed to get keyboard and everything off, fan wasnt dirty or clogged.

Would it just be burnt out perhaps?

1272904 2012-04-30 09:40:00 Similar problem with my HP. There was no dust or anything, just needed a new heatsink/fan assembly. That fixed the problem, but temps still go to around 85deg. sahilcc7 (15483)

If you're game enough you could remove the heat sink and reapply the thermal paste.

+1. Emphasis on the new, thin layer of paste. The stuff dries out and needs periodic replacement.

1272908 2012-05-01 10:20:00 maybe put some oil on the fan or get a new better one. Slankydudl (16687)
1272909 2012-05-04 05:32:00 I had a similar Acer and wanted to disassemble it gracefully for shits and giggles. Ended up smashing the keyboard off in rage because the design is SO ****ING STUIPID.

Acer. Not even once.
