| 1272461 | 2012-04-28 06:08:00 | HIYA I am getting internet drop outs at random intervals but for short periods of time, usually about 10 - 15 seconds? Here is the situation We have a home network based upon a TP LINK 300M Wireless N ADSL2+ Modem Router Model No. TD-W8960N We have 2 desktops and 4 laptops. The desktops connect through Ethernet and the laptops either wirelessly or Ethernet. The Modem/Router is about 6 weeks old, we bought it new from PB Tech It was rock solid when we first got it. Now it seems to drop the internet at least 10 or more times every hour. I have re booted the router. Gone back to factory settings Updated the firmware but still no solution Today I had 3 laptops connected. 2 wirelessly and one by Ethernet. The two wireless ones are running WIN 7 and Ubuntu. The 3rd laptop, connected by Ethernet is this one I am typing on When I had a drop out about 5mins ago, both wireless laptops reported no internet connection as did the Ethernet one. HOWEVER I still had access to my home network via the Ethernet one as I could access our NAS box which is connected to one of the router ports. I could also access the printer which is attached to another router port. It does therefore seem to be a modem problem and not a router one? Any advice or solutions This has been going on for about a week now and I am getting very frustrated Thanks |

| 1272463 | 2012-04-28 06:24:00 | I brought the same modem/router the other day. From pbtech as well. If the latest firmware is on it, some people have posted (in other forums), you should change the bandwidth from 20/40 mhz to 20 (under wireless/advanced) for the wireless. Then click on apply/save. And this should make it stable. I also found out (in IRC), it kept cutting me off. I fixed this by unticking G.lite / T1.143 and AnnexM under Advanced settings / DSL. I've stayed in IRC since I've unticked these options So, which ones drop out more now on yours?? The wireless or the ethernet? |

| 1272467 | 2012-04-28 06:35:00 | You did add the info under quick setup right?? The VPI / VCI / WAN type / Encapsulation mode, and username / password?? I had to for the internet LED on this, to come on. Under this option, I also ticked MTU and typed in 1492 Are all of these on auto (their ips), or did you give them static ips? If theyre on auto, their ip's may change everytime you reboot the desktops / laptops. Whos your ISP? |
