I have looked at trade me salaries and seek salaries and all of them are nothing but bull. I have a bachelor degree in information systems with some uni projects under my belt. I just want to know how old you guys were and how you guys here started in I.T and what experience and quals you guys had and now where are you guys now and how i.t and your careers progressed. |

A programmer fresh outta Uni would probably get around $40K -> $60K depending on what you were programming in? The big money really comes from consulting, and that comes with experience. Get experience and then later in life you'll have no troubles asking for $100 an hour plus, and people are happy to pay for expertise. However, you've gotta do the hard yards, and walking outta Uni with a degree won't gaurantee you anything. Get any job you can find, at least it's something to pay the bills. Heck, do volunteer work if you need to just to get something on your CV. What papers did you take as part of it, what have you specialized in, and what do you actually want to do? |

| 1250864 | 2011-12-27 19:17:00 | "IT" jobs vary a lot. What exactly are you wanting to do? Where did you do your degree, and did you just pass, or did you do very well? At the lower end, helpdesk or similar roles don't pay that well. Grad roles at one of the big-4 consulting firms tend to be around $40-$50k depending on your ability, experience etc. Expect to work very hard, but you will be rewarded for it later down the line. Software developer grads at a larger company would be around $40-50k - some smaller, more specialised firms, you may expect more - up to $70k if you're exceptional. |

Looks reasonably close to me - I'd actually employ people at slightly higher rates than some of those quoted because if you want good people you pay a premium. Judging by your posts though - I wouldn't give you a job, looks like your attitude isn't very good. |
