2012-05-02 09:06:00 | As they say on TV - Stay tuned :D Got a call today for a service call on Friday -- The person said their computer takes at least 20 minutes to boot, they said it was upgraded a while back to 1GB RAM XP and a pentium something CPU and when its going finally its slow as hell, and has a lot of pop-up messages. Hmmmm  I asked what antivirus / security software they had, they said AV something ---- This will be interesting ;)

2012-05-02 12:28:00 | I had to deal with a nasty little rogue bit of software today called Windows Shield Protector, does the same as most of the other fake AV looking rubbish. It had been on the system since last Thurs and the client just kept on clicking it to make it go away (of course that didnt work). Screwed up the Reg and disabled regedit, screwed up MSE so it wouldnt run etc. Manually dealt to it. Got a lappy arriving 11am running like a dog, kids have been on it playing online games. They say it has Trend Micro on it, it should be interesting... I dont know, but I seem to be having a real run on viruses and crap in the last few weeks, any other tech think they are on the increase, or just normal? Or maybe its the result of recent school holidays...

2012-05-03 00:27:00 | AVG, NOD, Norton Its more often user stupidity that gets PC's infected, not 'useless' AV Brands AVG & Norton. They are on more (home) PC's than allmost anything else. So why would it be a surprise to see more infected PC's with those 2 programs ?? , there's just so many more of them out there I see more infected PC's with Nod32 installed than AVG and norton combined. That doesnt mean Nod32 is useless It means we have install Nod on hundreds of our clients PC's It also means no malware scanner combo is perfect , malware gets through almost anything.

2012-05-03 03:02:00 | One thing I see A LOT OF is someone has put on Nod32 and not actually set it up to work to its full functions. Many people put it on "as is", and while it works OK at that its capable of doing much more and protecting much better. But yep, do agree, nothing is perfect. And thats where the magazine articles are very misleading ( almost to the point of false advertising) - they tend to make some people think <insert program>is the "best there is" and you dont need anything else.

2012-05-04 09:06:00 | I use Avast now and I think it is the best in the free realm. AVG has a very high false positive rate IMO. | KellyJM (16726) | |
2012-05-27 05:58:00 | Used to use AVG free (well, installed it anyway...), and hated it. Slow, slowed my boot time, tried to take over things such as search engine. Uninstalled and tried avira, avast, mse. Sticking with avast, it doesn't really slow my pc's boot time down much, and it works well as an antivirus program. | Nick G (16709) | |
