| 12130 | 2001-05-03 21:15:00 | Whenever I try to open a floppy disk either through Windows Explorer or My Computer I get the message that the floppy disk needs formatting. The light comes on but no response from the drive. The drive clacks away when there is no disk in it. How can I fix this please. |

With older disks you will need to do this manually before you can use them. To format the disk goto My Computer right click the 3.5' A:\ & click format. Otherwise as can happen sometimes the disk you are using may be corrupted. The A:\ drive is clacking away in an attempt to try read the disk but nobody home so to speak - so try a new disk & see if same problem occurs. Hope this helps a little. |

Either the selected capacity is not valid for this disk or the disk is damaged and may need to be replaced.' Then: 'The disk in Drive A cannot be formatted.' I had this problem once before with a previous computer (when I was a newbie) but can't remember how I fixed it. My son may have put in a disk from another computer (maybe a Mac) which may have caused the problem. The scan says no sign of a virus. I'll keep trying. |
