12381 2001-05-09 08:56:00 Being relative newbies and having read Z A Help over and over... we have the following probs .
1,won't always allow connection to server although we have ticked the 'allow server' boxes
2,Doesn't ask for permission to connect to the server. Is it supposed to ?
3,Alerts don't seem to make themselves known in real time
4,When we do find Alerts they are telling us the server is blocked - however we are still able to work within the site with access being available when it's supposedly blocked ???
We have , as said above read and re-read the Help Tutorials
and checked and re-checked the settings.
System comprises of P III-667 cpu , 40 GB Hard drive , running 128 mb ram , loaded with Win 98 SE (full) , M/soft office 97 (full)
Any help will be greatly accepted as we are just about ready to un-install it.
Also have recently downloaded 7.0 Media Player upgrade but can't find it anywhere and original media player (6.0) has never worked at all in as
far as playing video clips (music). Any ideas ??? Thank you to those who give this there consideration.

12382 2001-05-09 12:22:00 Hi Sandy,

I have used ZoneAlarm for some time now and will see if I can help with some of your questions:

1.
Under the 'Programs' tab, ensure there is a green tick in the 'Allow Connect' columns, next to 'Local' and 'Internet'. If there is a questionmark it will ask you each time.

2.
A program won't ask for permission if you have green ticked it under the programs tab (as above)and/or clicked the box that remembers the answer to the 'do you want to allow this program to access the internet' question in the pop up box that appears on the bottom right hand side of your screen.

3.
There is a box under the 'Alerts' tab, Alert Settings - Show the Alert Pop Up window. If this is ticked the real time alerts should show.

4.
Alerts show attempted access to your computer - usually from data sent to your computer by someone, who expects to get the data back like an echo. This is called a ping, and is a way for someone or a web site to establish whether your computer is there or not.

ZoneAlarm stealths your computer so that the data is not returned to the sender, so they do not know if you are there. Sort of like ringing someone and the answerphone clicks on... you do not know ifthe person you are ringing is there or not but they know you called them.

Sorry cannot help with Media Player, but I suggest you test Zone A larm at the following site and you may learn more about what it supposed to do as well.

12383 2001-05-10 06:09:00 ...great posting from Matt (!)

With regards not being able to find 'Media Player 7' - the default location for installation is:

C:\Programme Files\Windows Media Player

It should be there unless you preferred (chose)another location at time of download and install.

TIP: a quick way to locate the file on your system is to right-click on the Programme's icon (either the desktop or in your Programmes on the Start bar) > click properties > open the Shortcut tab > click 'Find Target'.

Done.
